DNA metabarcoding is the genetic analysis of bulk samples including a mix of different organisms (e.g.: samples from insect traps, plankton catches, stomach contents etc.). Specimens are not handled individually but the sample is homogenized and analyzed using high throughput parallel sequencing. Sequences are then computer-processed to obtain the species composition of the mixed sample.
Our standard analysis includes
The quality of DNA in the sample influences the results of our analysis. For this reason samples are ideally collected by trained personnel, fixed in an appropriate medium (Ethanol, RNA later, DMSO, DESS etc.) or frozen.
