Environmental monitoring
Environmental actions like the Water Framework Directive or the Marine Strategy Framework Directive provide the guidelines for the description, the evaluation and the protection of natural environments.
The evaluation of the ecological status of a natural environment is based on the description of the so-called biological component, a description of the occurrence and diversity of animal and plant species in a given area.
Compiling such species inventories may require a disproportionate workload when performed using
traditional methods, which often result in limited accuracy when dealing with certain taxonomic groups, organisms below a certain size or early developmental stages (eggs,
larvae).
Biome-id offers DNA and proteome-based methods for a comprehensive and accurate description of biological components (species inventory). In our inventories we include identifications from organism parts and early developmental stages, analyses of mixed samples from sampling devices and species detection from DNA traces in soil or water (eDNA).
Biodiversity surveys
Biome-id provides a fast and reliable DNA-based compilation of species lists for environmental assessment and surveillance, analysis of environmental impact and monitoring strategies. Our service complements and in some cases replaces traditional morphological approaches.
Biome-id offers modern molecular High Throughput DNA sequencing methods to describe the composition of animal and plant species communities.
Sediment, soil or water samples from terrestrial, marine and freshwater environments represent our starting material. Our DNA tests can be tailored to customer requirements and be focused either on particular taxonomic groups or all multi-cellular species.
Species composition
Biome-id provides DNA-based methods for the detection of single species, including invasive species, pests or endangered species (Red List).
We analyze complete organisms at any developmental stage, as well as body parts or traces (eDNA, hairs, feathers, blood, faeces etc.)
We will be pleased to provide you with further information and support. We gladly offer counselling on selecting the method available for your project.
